QC-03 Quran with Tajweed & Tarteel

Course code: QC-03
Pre-requisite: QC-01

This course is to define and explain the rules that explain how to recite the Quran with proper pronunciation as well as recitation at a moderate speed. It teaches the set of rules which govern how the Quran should be read in Tajweed. In this course student learns how to recite Quran in Tarteel as it is ordered in The Noble Quran to recite with "Tarteel". After completing this course student will have learnt the manner of beautifying the recitation of the Quran.

Tajweed (تجوید) means to pronounce or recite every letter correctly, i.e. from its proper origin of pronunciation coupled with its stipulated attributes such as prolongation (Madd مد), merging (Idghamادغام), conversion (Iqlab اقلاب), and pauses (Waqaf وقف) etc. Tajweed and its application can only be learned with a qualified Quran teacher. The rules themselves can be studied independently, but the correct application and proper pronunciation of the alphabets of Quran can only be done by reading to, listening to, reciting to, and being corrected by a qualified teacher of the Qur’an.

Tarteel means “Recitation.” It is used in al-Qur’an in Surah Muzzammil, verse 4, as Allah (TA) instructs the Prophet saying- “Wa rattilil qur’aana tarteelaa”, “and recite the Qur’an in slow measured rhythmic tones”. (Surah Muzzammil: 04) The Arabic for “slow, measured rhythmic tones” is Tarteel. Tarteel is the term used to define the rules that explain how to recite the Qur’an in the way and manner that the angel Jibreel(AS) revealed to our beloved Messenger(SAWS). Tajweed means “Improving,” or “to make something better.” Tajweed is a manner of beautifying the recitation of the Qur’an by reciting in a much slower manner. When praying, we recite with Tarteel, not Tajweed. Tajweed is a form of recitation in which the rules of Tarteel are used. Therefore, when discussing the rules of recitation, the proper term to use is Tarteel, for one cannot learn Tajweed without first learning Tarteel. In this course, student learns how to recite the Qur’an in the proper order without haste in slow measured rhythmic tones.
